Authentic Communication Process Groups

Keeping the peace can mean losing yourself. If you speak your truth, you might risk losing the relationship. What if you didn’t have to choose?

Here, you get to practice courageous conversations that make room for honesty, compassion, and deeper connection, even when tension is high.

What is an Authentic Communication Group?

In small groups of eight, we work with what’s happening between us in real time, discovering how we affect one another and receiving honest, caring feedback. These interactions offer opportunities to try something new: speaking up when you’re afraid, staying present when you feel defensive, and allowing yourself to receive care when you feel exposed.

As you become more aware of your inner reactions and your impact on others, you gain greater clarity, courage, and freedom to choose how you respond. You may even discover that conflict can deepen connection rather than destroy it.

Many of our deepest wounds were formed in relationships and that’s also where we can heal. As you explore your inner world and understand your impact on others, you can develop more clarity, courage, and choice.

“This is my online family where I totally come alive. It’s surprisingly deep. Unlike other Zoom meetings, I am fully engaged, leaning into my relationships with people I truly value.”
4 Pillars of ACG
  1. Nonviolent Communication: We practice speaking with honesty and compassion, so we can stay connected to our own needs while making room for others’ needs.
  2. Internal Family Systems: With Self energy (curiosity, courage, connection) we learn to recognize our parts as they arise, pause, and find more choice in how we respond. This is how inner work transfers into real life.
  3. Power Dynamics and Social Justice in Relationships: Together we explore how gender, race, culture, class, and other social identities shape our relationships. We examine our assumptions, and notice how we relate to feedback from the group.
  4. Here and Now Process Work: Standing on the shoulders of T-groups and process work, our interactive groups rely on four main components to keep us in the here and now: Awareness, Spontaneity, Authenticity and Sensitivity.
What You’ll Practice
  • Staying connected when you feel triggered or defensive.
  • Giving and receiving honest, caring feedback.
  • Speaking vulnerably about hurt, anger, and unmet needs.
  • Creating relational do-overs that offer new experiences of connection.
  • Initiating challenging interactions and exploring your impact.
Format

Most groups meet twice a month for 2 hours, and some groups meet weekly. Each meeting is recorded, so you can listen later, but the recordings are never shared outside the group. You can meet privately with your facilitator for 30 minutes once a quarter to discuss your learning or any challenges you’re facing.

“I joined the group because I never knew what to say… until later. In getting to know my fears, I’ve learned to take risks. I am much more connected to myself and to others.”
“It was rough at times, and it was messy. I cried. I was angry. I got defensive… Through it all, I learned to stand up for myself, to stand up for my own needs. I learned to cherish and treasure not only my needs, but also the needs of others in an authentic and integrated way. That has radically transformed and changed the nature of my relationships.”
Group Composition

We intentionally cultivate racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse groups. People who have been marginalized too often find themselves isolated or tokenized in learning spaces. So we invite you to help broaden access by welcoming people whose lived experiences are different from yours. If you have the financial resources, consider sponsoring someone with less access.
